Demonstration by Mike Waldron

On Wednesday 13th May 2026, we

had the pleasure of Mike Waldron giving our Society a mixed-media demonstration based on a scene

rom Wales and what a great demonstration it was.

Mike is a whitty, very entertaining presenter, who kept us astonished throughout with his very unusual

yet exciting techniques.

For example, we met his very good friend (as Mike referred to it), his turp and yesterday's paint covered rag!

This he used to great effect throughout his demonstration, either scrumbling the 'muck' on his rag onto the canvas,

spreading out raw paint that had been tubed direct onto the canvas or slapping the surface of the canvas to create random effects across the painted area.

We were shown that it is possible to cover acrylic paint with oil paint, (through we were recommended not to attempt the reverse), but you all knew that anyway.

Mike introduced many of us, to the use of Alcoholic Paint, which he dribbled across the canvas and added alcohol to,

to the create some very usual effects, that were then developed further by his friend the rag.

This demonstration was also a mixed method of application as well, because Mike used, yes his Rag (which I have now named Mr Rag), his fingers, two sizes of printing roller, palette knives, brushes and toothpicks!

After two hours we were still intrigued to see what the end result would be and we were not disappointed.  If you wish to see a condensed version of his demonstration, click on the button below.  I think you might be quite surprised by the result as were we!  Thank you Mike for an exciting demonstration!
